Would you like to capture a snapshot of the world for your baby to open on their 21st Birthday?
Do you wish you had a tin full of memories from the year you were born?
1 June, 2008
Dear Friend,
The year your baby is born into the world is an incredibly special and eventful time for you.
When Macy, my daughter was born my life changed forever. Life is so busy with a new born, and before you know where the time has gone they are blowing the candles out on their first birthday cake!
I really wanted to remember all the tiny details from Macy’s first year so I could tell her all about it when she was older. But I had no idea where to begin?
Does this sound familiar to you?
I was lucky enough to be given a Time Capsule from a friend as a gift. At first I was a bit dismissive of this huge tin, wondering how I was going to fill it up and what it was for?
It took me a few weeks to get round to opening it up, what with the dirty diapers and sleepless nights. But when I did, I was not only inspired but excited about creating the Time Capsule. I couldn’t wait to get started on this beautiful collection of memories for Macy to look at when she was older.
The great thing about the Time Capsule was that it can be as big or as little as you want it to be. You are helped along with a 22 piece set full of ideas and tips to help truly remember your child’s special year.
It doesn’t even matter if your baby has already been born it is never too late to start a capsule. I began when Macy was a few months old!
I started by thinking about when I was going to give my Time Capsule to Macy. I decided that her 21st birthday would be a special time. She would then be old enough to appreciate all the memorabilia I had collected for her.
The Time Capsule comes with an official seal and date stickers so you can close the Time Capsule and mark it with the date it will can be opened!
I then set about thinking of the special people I would get to write messages for Macy. The idea being that you and 5 others write your thoughts on the past, present and the future. Your baby when they turn 21 can then open it and read the messages.
The Time Capsule comes with 6 sets of stationery. They can be used to write a special letter for your baby to read when they turn 21!
After this I began filling in the profile booklet. This is a color book with lots of space for you to write down information from the year your baby was born. It does not need to be filled in immediately. You can do it gradually as your baby’s first year goes by. The idea is that you build up a big picture that captures the lifestyle and culture of their first year.
The booklet includes space for:
A photo of your baby
Space to write down all your baby’s details at birth. Including weight, height, DOB, time etc.
Details about their first home, neighbors and how you decorated their nursery.
The type of Family car you have
Specific profile of Mom and Dad. This includes their favorite food hobbies and dreams for the future!
The price of general household goods. These include a burger, movie ticket, postage stamp, carton of milk, Pepsi, loaf of bread and lots more!
Mom and Dad’s best guess at prices in the future!
Your monthly income and how you spend it
Popular TV stars, actors and actresses, authors and music stars!
Headlines of the year
Popular Fashions
And much more………………
I then began reading the “How to Guide”. This is a handbook which gives you tips and ideas on what else you can put in your Capsule. I decided to create a list of the things I would keep and put inside for Macy to look at. This way I could tick off each thing as I collected it. I wanted things that she would find interesting and would be a good representation of the year she was born in.
Here is a list of the things you can include for your baby to look at when he or she turns 21.
A bill from my grocery shopping
A Fashion Magazine
Real estate brochure advertising houses for sale
A $1 bill
Postage Stamp
New car catalogue
Your baby’s first outfit
Your baby’s first shoes.
A Utility bill
Your favorite CD
A Wal-Mart Catalogue
I went on the internet and printed off the top 100 baby names for the year!
Oscar winner for the Best Movie
Newspapers with the major stories of the year inside.
You can gradually fill the Time Capsule throughout the year. I kept mine on a book shelf and would add to it from time to time, when I found things that I thought Macy would enjoy looking at in 21 years time!
