Phil and Ted‘s E3 Buggy: Is it worth the extra money?
As an excited first time mum, buying a pram was a big deal. What brand to buy, how much to spend, what accessories are essential, and what colour to go for, are all critical questions.
I originally wanted a Bugaboo, like the one Gwyneth Paltrow has, (sad I know). However I was put off by the $1500 price tag. Although I still remember the changeable covers that come in yellow and blue with fondness!
It was my partner that wanted the Phil and Ted buggy, mainly on the back of a recommendation from a close friend. I thought they looked pretty cool and agreed, even though I was still dreaming of my celebrity status pram!
To say that I am blown away with my Phil and Ted buggy is an underestimated. I cannot sing its praise loud enough.
The first thing I noticed about the buggy is how easy it is to manoeuvre around. It is a feels like a three wheeler with power steering! You can easily guide it round corners and bends with just one hand, it is turned 360 degrees easily. Immediately after the birth this is very helpful!
When babies are first born it is recommended that they are laid horizontal until they are at least 3 months old. This is not always possible with the three wheelers and mums are left with 2 options. They either have to ensure that the babies are not in the buggy’s for prolonged periods of time, or purchase a bassinet for the baby to use for the first few months. The latter can also be an expensive option. Phil and Ted’s buggy overcome this by allowing the baby to lay horizontal in the main seat. When the baby gets older you can adjust the gradient of the seat so the baby can sit up.
The pram also has the ability to become a double buggy with a simple add on attachment. The type of attachment can vary in style to suit either a baby or toddler seat. Extremely versatile depending upon how long you intend to wait in between broods!
Another great feature is the carrying compartment underneath the buggy, I have been told this is large enough to carry a slab of beer! Joking aside, this is a great and convenience space. I use it to carry all my baby items and therefore do not need a nappy bag as well.
It also fits through all checkouts which can be very handy at the local supermarket!
Overall the Phil and Ted’s is both cool to look at and extremely practical. It is perfect for the first time mum who wants to look great but also negotiate places with ease.
